The Pardon of Saint-Jean-du-Doigt

The Pardon of Saint-Jean-du-Doigt—a major Breton festival—animates the village every late June, with a Saint John’s bonfire and a warm, festive atmosphere.

Every last Sunday in June, Saint-Jean-du-Doigt follows the rhythm of its Grand Pardon, a tradition dating back to the 15th century that draws pilgrims and visitors alike. The afternoon begins with a musical procession in Breton costume, with banners and relics, followed by a service in the church. The parade then climbs to the calvary and the Pen ar C’hra fountain to light the Saint John’s fire—the famous Tantad—the highlight of the day. The celebration continues on the community field with music, Breton dancing and entertainment, giving holidaymakers an authentic immersion in local culture.
